From Working in Trendy Cafes and in Corporate Hospitality, to Officially Starting a Business, Emma Laskey started out in Kenvale College with the aspiration to start up her own business offering plant-based and wholesome food to the market. Combining the knowledge acquired during her studies in Diploma of Hospitality Management and Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery, and her job experiences in Sydney, she has successfully launched her business “Emma’s Healthy Eats”.
Healthy delicious chef-made goodies made with real wholesome, fresh plant-based ingredients. I offer a range of nutritious baked treats, all free from wheat, dairy & refined sugar and the majority being vegan. I have created every product from scratch. They are all tried, tested & perfected!

It’s a Love Story
Originally from London, Emma has always been passionate for food and the healthy food industry. This was precisely the reason that led to her decision to move across the globe to Sydney for a year, a city that is well-known for its diverse food culture and a health food industry that’s emerging quickly. Thinking that she would spend a year to learn all that she can to take it back to home, she fell in love with the Sydney lifestyle and decided to pursue what she loves right there and then.

Looking back, as she combined the practical skills she had learnt in class and through her job placement through Kenvale College as a corporate chef at Commonwealth Bank, she recalled that it had been a tremendous aid in each other and helped her progress a lot.
Fast forward to the present, we are thrilled to reconnect with her and chatted to her a bit about where she is now:
K: Kenvale Team
E: Emma Laskey
K: Can you tell us a bit about your career path after graduating from Kenvale?
E: After graduating from Kenvale in Aug 2018, I made the transition from the quirky cafe world to corporate hospitality. I worked as cafe manager & chef at the Ernst & Young, Sydney building for 18 months. Over the last 4 years working in the food industry, I have often sold my home-made healthy treats in the cafes where I’ve worked – then I began to introduce them to the offering at the EY cafe and everyone LOVED them.

K: Is that how Emma’s Healthy Eats took off?
E: In April this year, I was temporarily stood down from my job at EY. I have always wanted to do my own thing eventually so this was the push I needed to start my own business – ‘Emma’s Healthy Eats’. It was a perfect opportunity whilst I wasn’t working and had more time on my hands so I could fully test the waters. I found the demand for healthy plant-based treats is most certainly there – in a big way!
K: Where do you see Emma’s Healthy Eats taking you?
E: Since launching my business at the end of April, it has grown very naturally and surprisingly fast.. mostly via word of mouth and social media. I am now looking at upscaling and supplying cafes with my products and even hiring my first member of staff to work at Emma’s Healthy Eats! The big question is whether I return to my full time job at EY when it is offered back to me and I haven’t got an answer for that question yet!
